Your Bill Cycle
Your bill cycle is based on your registration date.
We’ll produce your first bill roughly one month after your supply start date.
To check your exact bill date:
App → Billing → Your Next Bill
Web Portal → Bills & Payments → middle box → Next bill on...
Sometimes your first bill may be delayed if we’re waiting for an opening meter reading. If that happens, we’ll issue it as soon as the data is received.
After your first bill, we’ll continue to issue monthly bills on your set bill date.
Your Direct Debit
We calculate your annual energy cost and split it into 12 equal monthly payments.
Your first Direct Debit is taken on or around your supply start date.
To check your Direct Debit date:
App → Billing → Your Direct Debit
Web Portal → Bills & Payments → middle box → Direct Debit date
If your Direct Debit fails or is cancelled, we may move you to our Non-Direct Debit Standard Variable Tariff, which is more expensive.
We regularly review your usage. If your usage changes, your monthly Direct Debit may go up or down — but we’ll always notify you in advance.
Your Usage
Smart meter working → bills based on actual readings.
Smart meter not communicating or traditional meter → we’ll use either:
A manual reading you provide (within 2 days before your bill date), or
An estimated reading based on industry data and seasonal patterns.
Bills are always produced monthly, in arrears of your usage.
Your Account Balance
When we take your monthly Direct Debit, it goes into your Tulo account as credit.
Each month, we bill you for your usage and deduct it from your balance.
In warmer months, you’ll usually build credit. In colder months, you’ll use that credit to cover higher usage.
Withdrawing credit mid-year can cause problems:
Around 80% of gas and 65% of electricity is used between September–March.
If you withdraw credit, you may fall into debit during winter.
This can lead to financial strain and higher catch-up payments.
Credit Refunds
If your account builds up too much credit, you may request a refund.
You can also lower your Direct Debit in your Tulo account — we’ll suggest an amount that reduces your balance gradually.
Debit Balances
If your account goes into debit, you’ll owe money for energy already used.
You can:
Increase your Direct Debit (we’ll suggest a suitable amount), or
Make a one-off top-up payment online.
